The University of Rojava, created in 2016 following the Academy of Social Sciences of Mesopotamia in 2014 in Qamishli in Rojava and Northern Syria in the context of the experimentation of democratic confederalism and the structuring of new institutions in the fields of education, health, justice, has welcomed over 700 students since its creation.
Of course, it adopts the following principles: liberation of women, ecological society, building of fraternity and friendship between all nations and various Syrian components. It rejects hierarchical relations and favors relationships of friendship and cooperation between students and teachers.
The University both offers courses related to the areas of activity of the region and engineering of agriculture and petroleum professions, and welcomes curriculums in educational sciences, Kurdish languages and literatures, women's studies, and arts, from a perspective of change in the educational system open to critical pedagogies and the philosophy of education, and in a sense of transforming society, peace, equality, and democratic autonomy.
It is among the few universities in the region, and whose courses and registration are free open despite the social and political situation, until this october 2019 in the gravity of the situation of the conflict on the Turkish-Syrian border.
Gulistan Sido (University of Rojava), after a curriculum in French literature, and translation and Arabization at the University of Aleppo, continues her studies at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University (Paris 3), where she holds a master's degree of Moderns Litteratures, then begins a second master's degree at INALCO that she is obliged to interrupt in 2009. She taught Arabic and French from 2003 in Aleppo.
Founding member of the Institute of Literature and Kurdish Languages “Viyan Amara” in Afrin, Vice-President of the Education Committee-Rojava-Afrin,and of the University of Rojava in Qamishli where she is also head of the Academic Committee and member of the International Relations Committee.
Areas of research: Theories of Orality, Kurdish Oral Literatures, Social Revolution and Women's struggles.
